Vapor Degreasing
Williams Metalfinishing provides comprehensive vapor degreasing services to complement their metal polishing expertise.
Williams focuses primarily on solvent vapor degreasing utilizing trichloroethylene as the chemical solvent since it remains highly effective and uses a fraction of the energy of other processes.
Vapor degreasing is effective due to the ability to dissolve oil and grease. In vapor degreasing, the heat source raises the liquid solvent to its boiling point. Once the solvent reaches that point, hot, heavy vapors are produced that rise to a designated vapor line. The vapors are then condensed on cold coils. The clean, condensed solvent is collected and sprayed onto the parts to assist in flushing the dirt from holes or areas where dirt has accumulated.
The parts in the vapor degreasing machine are introduced into the solvent vapor, and the solvent vapor condenses on the part’s surface. The liquid solvent produced as a result of this condensation dissolves the greases and oils on the part and flushes them away. As the parts are cleaned, more vapors continue to be produced to replace those that were condensed.
